Kiva is a non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs and small business owners raise 0% interest capital. Recently launched in November, our Kiva San Jose & the Peninsula efforts since January have helped over 150 entrepreneurs start or expand their business. As the backbone of our U.S economy, we provide both financial and social capital to small business owners and empower them to thrive in Silicon Valley. Jake will discuss Kiva's recent move to the San Jose area. |

Vision Zero Program Manager

The City of San Jose adopted the Vision Zero initiative in May of 2015. Vision Zero is a traffic safety initiative that aims at eliminating traffic fatalities and significantly reduce severe injuries. Heba will also present information on collisions data and trends, along with the City’s efforts to address safety issues in terms of engineering, education, encouragement, evaluation and enforcement efforts. Heba has over 25 years of transportation experience in both the public and private sectors. Her experience is in the areas of transportation planning, traffic engineering and roadway design including: complete streets, bicycle/pedestrian improvement projects, safe routes to school programs, traffic calming, ITS, traffic impact analyses, and grant application/administration. She is also experienced in community outreach, and educational and engagement programs. She has a Master of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Transportation Planning, and she is a licensed Traffic Engineer in California. |

Description: Chief Business Officer Laura Phan will give an overview of California public education finance, including the impact of the new Local Control Funding Formula and fiscal challenges for local school districts. Laura Phan is the Assistant Superintendent, Business Services Division of Oak Grove School District. Prior to the current position, she served in the same capacity at San Mateo-Foster City School District, Alum Rock Union School District, and Mount Pleasant School District. She has more than 15 years of experience in school business management. In addition, Laura is a California Certified Public Accountant with diverse experience in auditing and consulting, and a former owner/operator of two different businesses. In addition to participating in various school business associations, Laura is a founding member of the Vietnamese American Professional Women Association of Silicon Valley (VAPW), and an active participant in various charity organizations. Every year, Laura works with her charity groups to plan and execute large fundraising events. Laura has a special interest in promoting and supporting the advancement of disadvantaged women and children. |

Mr. Robert Yabes is a Department of Justice fully accredited representative and the Program Director of Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services. He holds a master’s degree in Philosophy, and has received numerous training on immigration law, immigration program management, and immigrant leadership. Before taking the role as program director, he has represented hundreds of clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Service and the Executive Office for Immigration Review. His nonprofit experience in immigration legal services covers more than 20 years. He does program planning, and works collaboratively with immigration legal services and other community-based organization on issues facing immigrants. |

Coach Shaw, comes from a great family with two great parents father was a police officer for over 23 years, mother work for NASA for 10 years. A graduate of San Jose College majored in communication with a minor in business. He has been involved in Youth Sports since 1976 in the San Jose California area. Married for 28 years with 5 kids one set of twins graduating from high school this year from S.T. High School in San Jose. His daughter is going to University of Arizona, and his son is going to the College of Grand Canyon University, his oldest son has graduated from college last year with a degree in Computer Graphics Have been voted High School Coach of the Year, CYO coach of the year voted 2005 All-Star coach for the San Jose Evergreen Valley Chapter NJB, received awards from the state of Texas, given the key to the state of Texas, voted coach of the Youth Athletic program in the state of Texas. Coach will talk about youth sports, youth academics, youth lives socially with respect to community involvement. |
